How do I pick up new channels?

In most cases, you don't need to take any action at all.

Your TV, set-top box, or PVR with Freeview should automatically update if left in Stand-by mode overnight. So the next time you switch it on, you'll find the new channel available.

Simply use your remote to turn off your TV and leave it in Stand-by mode.

Quick tip: Some TVs may display an onscreen pop-up asking you to accept an update. Please select "accept" if prompted.

What should you do if your TV or box doesn't update automatically?

You can perform a re-tune to update it and pick up the new channel.

To re-tune, look for "Tuning," "Digital Tuning," or "Auto-tuning" in the Settings or Menu on your TV or box. Check out our "Guide to Tuning" for general tips.

Step-by-step instructions may vary across different brands and models, so it's advisable to check the manufacturer's website for detailed instructions specific to your model.

How can you determine if a new channel is available to you?

In most cases, if a new channel is available in your region, your TV or box with Freeview will automatically pick it up. If you want to verify its availability, follow these steps:

  1. Check to see if the channel is available in your area. Broadcasters may choose to make a channel available in selected regions.
  2. Also, confirm whether the channel is broadcast via UHF, satellite, or both types of transmissions. If it's solely broadcast via UHF, you'll need UHF coverage and a UHF aerial to access that channel. If it's only available via satellite, a satellite dish is required to receive the channel.

Select the channel on the "Channels" page to learn more about its availability and how it's broadcast. A channel that's broadcast via both UHF and satellite won't have "only available via UHF" or "only available via satellite" noted on its page.
