Accessibility options on Freeview

Broadcasters collaborate with organizations like Able NZ to enhance the accessibility of programs on Freeview for all New Zealanders. This means they offer two key features: Audio Descriptions and Captions.

Audio Descriptions

Audio Descriptions are specifically created for people who are blind or visually impaired. They provide verbal descriptions of what's happening on screen, especially during moments without spoken dialogue.

To find programs with Audio Descriptions in your Freeview TV Guide, look for the AD icon. You can easily enable or disable Audio Descriptions using your remote control. You might do this by accessing your device's Menu and changing the preferred Language setting to "Italian," or some TVs and boxes have a dedicated Audio Description option in their Menu. Refer to your TV or box's user manual for specific instructions.

Captions

Captions are beneficial for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing as they provide text-based transcripts of dialogue, music, and other sound effects, including laughter.

In your Freeview TV Guide, look for the captioning icon to identify programs with captions. You can activate or deactivate captions on your TV or box by pressing buttons like SUB, SUBT, STTL, or TTX on your remote. If you need help with this, consult your TV or box's user manual for device-specific guidance.
